Learn more about the issues facing Lenexa
Guiding Smart Development
Lenexa has tremendous opportunity—and responsibility—with its remaining undeveloped acreage. John Michael will leverage five years of service on the Planning Commission and his time on the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee to keep Lenexa on track for smart, responsible development that balances our need for housing and maintaining the character of our neighborhoods.
Public Safety
Our robust and award-winning public safety departments help keep Lenexa special. John Michael supports their funding and growth, and recognizes that among the many concerns we face, attracting and retaining new talent at the Lenexa Police and Lenexa Fire Departments is a major priority. John Michael will ensure our departments are well-equipped, well-funded, and well-staffed.
Housing
Housing is on everyone’s minds, and our city’s future must include a diverse mix of housing types to ensure we stay vibrant and livable for all Lenexans. That includes examining barriers and opportunities for new single-family housing, and ensuring multifamily only goes where it is appropriate. John Michael feels strongly that encouraging “missing" middle” housing types will provide a broader range of options for our current and future residents.
Parks and Recreation
In April 2024, Lenexa published a refreshed Parks and Recreation Master Plan which established priorities for the city for the next decade; and in 2025, Lenexans overwhelmingly passed a renewal to our 3/8 cent sales tax that funds many of our projects. In addition to supporting infrastructure improvements and projects like Ad Astra Pool, John Michael is a frequent user and supporter of Lenexa’s robust network of trails. His intent is to continue to grow this highlight of the city.
